News Bulletin
The Host committee is making plans to organize transportation* from Buffalo
International airport.
What are the advantages?
1) crossing the boarder on land does not require a
passport but two pieces of identification (and a letter from home)
2) Cost savings in airfare (the difference in airfare may be less then total
cost with transportation* to Camp Northern Lights)
*The cost of transportation from Buffalo to Camp
Northern lights and back will be passed onto the travelers.
The Transportation Committee is working diligently to acquire the
information and plan towards border requirements and equipment
transportation. When the information is available it will immediately be
posted.
U. S. Citizens Crossing the Border into Canada
Below is a summary of the passport/ID issues as the Cadet office understands them (but we are not the official word on the subject). For official information check out the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol website. The safest way to go is to get a passport, but if that is not practical or possible read the following:
As of Dec 21, 2007, passport requirements have been once again delayed meaning that US citizens arriving in Canada by land or water do not need a passport until at least summer 2009.
Guidelines:
Anyone (child or adult) arriving by air must have a passport.
If you are age 18 or under entering and leaving Canada by land or water you must have a certified copy of a birth certificate
if you are an adult supervising a group of children 18 or under you must have notarized written permission from the parents or guardians (permission from both parents if they are divorced), including the name and contact information of the parents / guardians.
Adults (19 and over) if they don't have a passport must have 2 items: a picture ID such as a valid drivers license and a certified birth certificate.
